Here we go, my first real animation. Even though it was pretty fun and challenging to work on, I am really quite salty with it.
(WARNING: RANT INCOMING).
I don’t want to complain too much because the software I used, Pencil, is free to download, but goddamn it’s glitchy and wonky as hell. I would have finished this simple little animation a week ago if the program didn’t keep randomly eating frames and layers. The tools are confusing too. The fill tool works on a separate layer and shows up with a lighter opacity, and there is no layer merge option, so cleaning up the corners and spots it misses is a huge pain. There is apparently a crop option, but I could never find it. And finally, I could not even export this thing as a gif. I had to take all the frames to a gif building website and finish it there.
I didn’t expect the software to be perfect. I was just looking for something to let me try animating, so I guess it did its job. I’m just really annoyed. I’ll probably revisit Pencil again later to see if I’m still interested in animating. Hopefully I can avoid most of the weirdness.
